Synopsis

For years, generations of children have read the Chronicles of Narnia series that was written by C.S. Lewis. Now, children and their parents can revisit the magical world of Narnia through director Andrew Adamson’s film.

The movie begins when two sisters and two brothers from the Pevensie family are sent to a large country home where they will be safe from the nightly air raids by Germany. While playing a fun game of hide-and-go-seek, the youngest child, Lucy, stumbles on to an old wardrobe. When she decides to hide in the wardrobe, she tumbles into a snowy world where she meets Mr. Tumnus, who is a faun.

The Pevensie siblings have been raised to be polite and courteous. However, they are full of life, energy and are a feisty foursome. These traits serve the children well in the fantasy world they come to know as Narnia.

In Narnia, the siblings meet a variety of creatures that we might find in zoos and some that we will never see at all. The kids encounter a series of obstacles that they resolve with determination and more than a little help from Aslan, the Lion, who has been resurrected from death. The White Witch is not as pure as she’d like you to believe. From a Christian standpoint, Aslan would represent Christ and the White Witch, Satan.

It seems the White Witch has cast a spell on the land of Narnia which has kept it frigidly cold and under a blanket of ice and snow for 100 years. It is up to the children to break the curse and return Narnia to its original state. Little do the children know just how long this will take.

When Lucy first tumbles into the wardrobe and enters Narnia, her siblings don’t believe her fantastic story and believe it is only her vivid imagination. Then, brother Edmund visits Narnia with her and they convince older siblings Peter and Susan to enter the wardrobe. The children encounter all sorts of happenings that could take in any British forest if such creatures as fauns, lions and witches were found there. When the children return to the country home, they find that time has stood still while they were gone. This makes it much easier for them to make subsequent visits to the magical world.

Wolves, talking beavers and other fantasy creatures live in the world of Narnia, and they will take viewers of all ages into a magical land of make believe that will make imaginations soar. As the film moves toward its conclusion, spectacular and amazing effects leave the audience breathless. Be sure to see this spectacular film. It’s sure to be a classic, just like the book of the same name. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a fantastic family film and one that you won’t want to miss.
